HONOURBOUND - 2-d samurai beat-em-up gorefest
Heya peoples, I'm the main character animator for HonourBound. We've been working pretty hard the past few months and the games finally getting to a playable and possibly fun state!
It's a 2-d brawler, beat-em-up, hack n slash, combo breaker sword fighter set in a fantasy Japanese inspired setting.
We've loads till to do and lots of the animations need LOADS of work but check it out anyway and let us know what you think.
Thanks!

Looks super guys...will definitely play it
Nice. Have you played the new DmC? Looks like this game would be great borrowing some mechanics and implementation decisions from it.
Combos and stuff, weapon switching. Yeah. That's the stuff.
Badass!
Awesome! Please keep up updated

Some new stuff we've been working on. I'm really looking forward to having pinning as a feature as some of these characters have pretty complex movements. We've yet to look at ffd either but I did some playing around with it in my own time and it is EXCITING!
I can't wait to get my hands on this game, looks amazing!
Reeeally nice artstyle!
And it seems to be very suited for a spine like animationsystem (or vice versa)
Hey everybody, myself and the rest of the digital furnace dev team have been working away on this game. We've since changed the name to 'OniKira, Demon Killer' and are hoping to release through steam early access next month if all goes well.
A lot of the combat has been improved and moves added and changed. I also got to add some FFD to one of our bosses which made him look SOOO much better and allowed me to use way less textures which I'm all for. I'll try post some gifs of him if I get a chance today. In the meantime here is a new trailer showcasing some of the new effects and HUD and such. Thanks for looking
Wow, this game is looking great! I would dearly love to know how you are creating/rendering those trails for the sword swipes (especially with the hint of color in them). Oooh and how you're making the death animation, the one where they sort of disintegrate in a haze of blue. Such great visuals!

Looking NICE!

The animations looks awesome! We are looking for an animator for our upcoming mobile game, do you freelance for other games?

Hey! Thanks for the compliments! The trails are the result of some programmer magic which I'm not entirely privy to unfortunately. We created a tool in component in Duality , the engine we are using, that would take the position of two bounding points in spine and in our engine create a mesh that would expand a texture out as it moves. The front of the mesh is attached to the weapon bone so it follows the arc of attacks. I'm able to control when the trail turns on/off in spine by turning on and off the bounding points in spine. No idea how it works behind the programming but its a cool component indeed. I think its pretty similar to this which might be able to shed greater light on it:

The deaths are actually spritesheets. I animated the characters dying in spine and then used after effects in making them look as though they crack and disintergrate while their soul escapes. Lots of layers and effects that are overly complex and messy but the result is quite nice

Cool thanks! I'm unfortunately super busy with this game and am not able to take on any more work but sometime next freelance is a definite possibility.
