Good job Tomasz! Love your work. Let me know if you would like to relocalise and work in Finland

Hi!
Thank you, it's great you like it!
I didn't consider moving to Finland, but it sounds like an exciting opportunity. May I ask you for some more details? Could you tell me something about projects you would like me to work on?

You can reach me here, on skype (milky-way-studio) or via email (kontakt@tomaszczajka.pl).

Best Regards,
Tomasz Czajka

I can see that you have your own little business which is great!

I have couple of projects I'm working on right now some with Spine and others with more traditional animations. I saw that you are quite versatile with your art and animation, it's a very good thing and I like to work with this kind of profile. So maybe if I'm looking for outsourcing work we could give it a try one day.

I'm working at http://www.futureplaygames.com right now, an already profitable startup company with a flat organisation, where we are making small games and Spine is an awesome tool to achieve our goals fast with very good quality. Two games released in one year so far and we have 3 more right now in pre-production and production. The team is small and very talented, we have lot of space for creativity here which is fun! I can't show you what I'm working right now but take a look at http://www.buildawaygame.com it will give you an idea.

There is a lot of succesfull games company here in Finland so definitely if you think about moving I'm sure you could find an awesome place to work around here. There is a great need for good artists like you.

I also had my own animation business in the past and I can understand the joy of being a freelancer having control and liberty over your work.

Have a good day!
Guillaume

Hi Guillaume!

How are you? I must admit I can't get out of my head the idea of working with you or Future Play Games. Do you have any freelance/outsource opportunities for an animator or do you know anything about vacancy for such position? Where should I send my portfolio or who should I contact?

The last time you approached me I was just in the middle of buying my first apartment and I was a little confused. Now that everything is starting to settle, I think I'm ready to test my skills somewhere else.

Have a nice day!
Tomasz

Hey Tomasz,

We are currently in the hiring process, we have already hired a new artist recently and interviewing other candidates right now.

Please apply and send your portfolio for this position.

That way we are sure the whole team will see your work and we can discuss for the next step.

In the meantime, feel free to ask me any questions about Helsinki. I'll be happy to help since I'm Canadian and moved here two years ago, I've experienced the moving transition.

Hi,
It looks like you have spent some time in Helsinki, so how do you like the city? What is your favorite thing about it? Do you like going out there and spending time outside?

I did some research on living in Finland, but I couldn't find current information regarding costs of living and average salary. How much does renting a small apartment cost? Do you have to live very remote from the city centre? Do many people speak English there?

By the way, I just sent my CV and portfolio. I am sure you are quite busy, but I'd appreciate even feedback on what I can improve, so I could try again in few months.

Have a nice day,
Tomasz

Hi Tomasz, sorry for the wait.

More than half of the studio is currently working remotely in Thailand right now so the communication is a little bit harder. Anyway, the HR should contact you soon to start the process, maybe a Skype call or art test if you are interested.

To quickly answer your questions, yes I really love to live here. Life and work conditions in Finland are one of the best in the world. One thing you need to know, I came here with my wife so I was not alone. It can maybe scary to move to another country with also a different language but since I was with my wife, we were supporting each others. It's probably different if you come here alone.

But anyway, when I came here, I already had a job. For my wife it was harder for her to find something but she finally find something great after 8 months. Language was a problem but for you if you come work in a game company we all speak in english. For me also, english is not my first language but it's not a problem here, all the Finns knows english also. The harder part of this is at the grocery, there is no inscription in english, weird but manageable.

Cost of the life is expensive here (compare to where I live in Canada) but the salary is matched to the cost of life. One thing amazing here is the recycling aspect of everything. Almost all our furnitures are second hand and they look very nicely. So we saved a lot there.

Hope it helps, you should receive a answer to your email soon.

Thanks you
Guillaume
